HUNDRED THOUSAND PLANES & MELODIES OVER MONROE
On Sunday September 27th, between 12:30 and 1:30 Monroe Ave. will be shut down between Fulton and Michigan so that One Hundred Thousand 100% post-consumer brightly colored airplanes can be launched from the rooftops of six major downtown rooftops that are 6-11 stories tall. At the same time down below, thousands of musicians of all skill levels, instruments, and ages will come together to play a beautiful melody (A single melody from Sigur Ros’ Olsen Olsen) in the streets as the sky and roads are filled with rainbow colored airplanes. Whether you play it or bang it, hum it or strum it no one is excluded- even if you don’t think you’re any good I want you here singing along with us. Each rooftop will have its own color, with synchronized launches like fireworks. This once in a lifetime event will be an event of brotherhood, a celebration of life and a reminder that we are all in this together.

Music Notation is in the photos below, and will be on all the airplanes. If you cant read music notation, just listen to the melody a few times, its easy to figure out.
Clean up: I have hired a professional cleaning company to clean up this entire event, but I am also asking all participants to grab and planes nearby after the event and place them in any one of the 30 recycling bins that will be along Monroe so that they can be recycled.
If you want to help, I am encouraging all music programs in Grand Rapids to get involved and be a part of this event, whether you are a student or a parent please reach out to those in charge of these programs and encourage their participation and pass along my contact information. Also if you can volunteer on weekends to help fold planes with me, message me and I will tell when and where it’s happening, will be every Saturday and Sunday afternoon. This event will be participating in ArtPrize, another event that was a big inspiration for this event; I encourage you all to view all the other participating artists as well. A documentary filmed by Creo Productions on this event will be shown in the Federal Building/Old Art Museum next to Kendall College on the 2nd floor; I will get you the voting details as it comes in.
I have worked every day for half a year to create this event. I promise you now that this event will exceed all expectations, and that it is something that you will be able to remember for the rest of your life.
